Teelin is committed to providing top quality dance instruction, promoting Irish culture through traditional step dance, exploring innovative choreography, and increasing performance opportunities for Irish dancers. This is accomplished through the three branches of Teelin: the SCHOOL OF IRISH DANCE, the PERFORMANCE COMPANY, and the production of STEPDANCE.
Owner/Director Maureen Gately,TCRG, is passionate about Irish dance, Irish music, and dance performances. Maureen's sister, Kathleen Young, TCRG, is a Co-Owner, an Instructor, and also serves as the Business Manager. And the third Berry sister, Eileen Narvell, is an Assistant Instructor for the dance school.
Joined by Molly Nilan, TCRG, Teelin has forged a strong and dedicated teaching staff. Several enthusiastic parents and adult dancers also assist with various administrative responsibilities, thereby enhancing the "Teelin Family" atmosphere enjoyed by all Teelin dancers and their families.
DANCE SCHOOL
The Teelin School of Irish Dance specializes in traditional Irish step dance and also offers unique opportunities to students interested in a well-rounded dance education. Our dance students range from ages 4-adult, with interests varying from recreational dance to performance opportunities and international dance competitions. Irish dance classes are offered at our spacious studio in Columbia. When instructor availability and schedules permit, specialty classes are offered in an eclectic mix of other dance styles designed to nurture the artistic development of our students. Discounts are also available to Teelin students at some of the nearby fitness centers that offer classes in Pilates and yoga, thereby encouraging each dancer's development as a well-rounded athlete.
PERFORMANCE COMPANY
Maureen Gately's professional experience as a performer and choreographer inspired her to establish the
Teelin Irish Dance Company. This student-based dance company enjoys "wowing" audiences throughout Maryland and the Metro DC area with its creative choreography and lively performances of traditional (and some "not-so-traditional") Irish dance shows.
'STEPDANCE' SHOW
Teelin's production of StepDance is the signature performance of the Teelin Irish Dance Company, and also features professional artists. (Note: This is not a school show. The annual production featuring students from the Teelin School of Irish Dance is the Teelin Spring Show.)
