Teelin Irish Dance Company, based in Columbia, Maryland, is known for performances that accentuate the energy of Irish dance with envelope-pushing choreography. There are four troupes of the company, each comprised of dancers who have been auditioned from the Teelin School of Irish Dance. The versatility of a performance company that is separate from yet associated with an Irish dance school allows for a wide variety of entertainment possibilities. Performances may include dancers from a single troupe, or from multiple groups of dancers, and may also include other professional artists.
Director Maureen Gately has extensive training in several dance styles, which enhance her mastery of traditional Irish step dance. Maureen’s experience as a professional dance performer has inspired her to explore creative choreography, thereby eliciting in her dancers a passion for performing. This innovative style also won her the 2009 Individual Artist Award for Dance Choreography presented by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC).
Teelin Irish Dance Company has been featured in a professionally-collaborated production annually since 2006. The production of StepDance debuted to a soldout theatre in 2012, and was pre-dated by a 6-year run of the highly successful production "Portraits of Ireland". Other highlights include featured performances at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage in DC, Turning Stone Resort and Casino in NY, the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore, Carroll County Arts Center (with repeated soldout performances!), the main stage of the Maryland Irish Festival, and repeat invitations to perform at the Congressional Country Club. Teelin Irish Dance Company has also performed with Governor Martin O'Malley, with Gaelic Storm (from the hit movie "Titanic"), with Eileen Ivers (fiddler from Riverdance), and with Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble.
